Looking Up at Kyle Field

Of all the pictures I took at Kyle Field recently, mostly for a previous post, this one is my favorite! I went to the west side parking lot and stood at the foot of the stadium. If you’ve ever been up to the top of the third deck of Kyle Field, you know it’s a TALL stadium… you can get the same idea from standing at the bottom and looking straight up. I don’t know what to say about this photo except that I think it’s awesome.

This picture is in all three galleries: General Gallery, Athletics Relates Gallery, and the Aggie Desktop Wallpaper Gallery.

2010 Aggie Football Schedule Wallpapers

With Aggie Football just one more long month away I think it’s time for life to start revolving around Saturday football games and tailgates. Aggie Athletics has some decent desktop wallpapers available to download…Nice pictures in different sizes anybody can get to, but I always want a schedule wallpaper that has both home and away games on it. So usually I made a few and as usual I would have to same mine aren’t too shabby at all.

This first one I made with a screenshot of the offseason splash page for Aggie Football at Aggie Athletics.

The other one I put together is probably the one I like the best. This one is from a picture uploaded to Flickr by eschipul. I think this one is just really clean and direct. And it’s just a really cool perspective picture of the Albritton Bell Tower. The original photo attribution is below:

These two wallpapers are in the Aggie Desktop Wallpaper gallery.

Note: The team helmet images used are from MG's Helmets.

Look for a post Friday with one more awesome Kyle Field picture that will be in both galleries and sized for wallpaper!

On The Sidelines at Kyle Field

So for my first real post I decided to take some pictures at Kyle Field... not just outside the stadium or from across the street, but on the field. The Texas A&M Letterman's Association operates the Texas A&M Sports Museum, located in the Bernard C. Richardson Zone at Kyle Field, and after touring the exhibits guests are invited to walk out the back door leading through the northeast tunnel and right on to the sidelines of Kyle Field.  If you’ve never been to the museum or down on Kyle Field, you really should stop by the next chance you get.

Standing on field-level in the sun and the heat, looking up at all the empty seats that would normally be full, it’s easy to see why Kyle Field is one of the most intimidating venues in all of college football even if you’ve never been there on game day.

It was pretty amazing to look down the field unpainted. It was easy to see why the A&M groundskeepers have won awards for the best collegiate football field in the country. The field looked like a perfectly maintained green on a golf course... short blades of grass really close together; nice and green even in the Texas midsummer heat.

I'm sure you can tell how faded and ugly the metal/vinyl (I'm not sure which) facade on the face of the 3rd deck looks. The 12th Man loves to bang on the sign as they yell and between hands and fists banging the sign, Aggie Rings knocking off the paint, and the Texas sun fading what’s left, it looks more black and white than maroon and white. Were getting pretty close to the beginning of the season and it still looks pretty bad... I hope it gets fixed before we kickoff 2010 against SFA on September 4th.

12th Man TV... I love that the entire video board is used for replays and video and the ads are placed around the screen not taking up video space.

These photos are in the General Gallery AND the Athletics Photo Gallery.

Introduction - First Post!

So here is the plan… I’ve set this little blog to post pictures related to Texas A&M, Aggie Athletics, and other things around Aggieland. When I post a picture in an entry I will add it to the appropriate photo gallery shortly after posted, either General or Athletics Related (or maybe both), for easier archiving and viewing. I will note which gallery the photos in each post are in. I have also have created a gallery for downloading computer desktop wallpapers. I will only post pictures I have taken myself or photos that are licensed for use under Creative Commons guidelines. So I guess that’s pretty much it. I'm working on a contact page to send me an email (comments, concerns, photo requests, complaints).

I guess since this is a photo blog. The first post really should have picture… Gig ‘em.
